📘 DATA AND INFORMATION

🔹 What is Data?

Data is a collection of raw facts and figures.

👉 Example:

  • 50, 70, 90 (marks only numbers = data)

  • Names like Ram, Sita


🔹 What is Information?

Information is processed data that gives meaning.

👉 Example:

  • “Ram got 90 marks” (this is meaningful → information)


📁 FILE

🔹 What is a File?

A file is a collection of data stored in a computer.

👉 Examples:

  • A document file (notes)

  • A picture file

  • A music file


🔹 Different File Formats

File format tells the type of file.

👉 Examples:

  • .docx → Word file

  • .jpg → Image file

  • .mp3 → Audio file

  • .mp4 → Video file

  • .pdf → Document file


📂 FOLDER

🔹 What is a Folder?

A folder is a place where files are stored and organized.

👉 Like a school bag that keeps books neatly.


🛠️ HOW TO CREATE A FOLDER (Steps)

  1. Right-click on desktop

  2. Click New

  3. Click Folder

  4. Type folder name

  5. Press Enter


🔄 OPERATIONS ON FOLDER / FILES

🔹 1. Open a Folder

👉 Steps:

  1. Double-click on the folder
    OR

  2. Right-click → Click Open


🔹 2. Delete a Folder/File

👉 Steps:

  1. Select the file/folder

  2. Press Delete key
    OR

  3. Right-click → Click Delete


🔹 3. Copy a Folder/File

👉 Steps:

  1. Right-click on file/folder

  2. Click Copy


🔹 4. Paste a Folder/File

👉 Steps:

  1. Go to location

  2. Right-click → Click Paste


🔹 5. Cut a Folder/File

👉 Steps:

  1. Right-click on file/folder

  2. Click Cut


🔹 6. Move using Cut + Paste

👉 Steps:

  1. Cut the file

  2. Go to new location

  3. Paste it


🔤 WHAT IS FILE EXTENSION?

File extension is the last part of a file name after a dot (.)

👉 Examples:

  • photo.jpg

  • song.mp3

  • notes.docx

It tells the type of file.


📊 STEPS TO SORT FILES

Sorting means arranging files in order.

👉 Steps:

  1. Open the folder

  2. Right-click in empty space

  3. Click Sort by

  4. Choose option:

    • Name

    • Date

    • Size

    • Type
