💻 What is an Operating System (OS)?

An Operating System (OS) is a special software that helps the computer to work.

👉 It controls all parts of the computer.
👉 It helps us to use the computer easily.

Examples of OS:

  • Windows
  • Linux
  • Mac OS

🖥️ Types of Operating System

1. CUI (Character User Interface)

  • We type commands using keyboard
  • No pictures
  • Example: DOS

2. GUI (Graphical User Interface)

  • We use mouse to click on pictures (icons)
  • Easy to use
  • Example: Windows

🪟 Windows Desktop

When we start the computer, we see the Desktop.

Desktop contains:

  • Wallpaper
  • Icons
  • Taskbar

🎨 Wallpaper

  • Background picture of the desktop
  • We can change it

🧩 Icons

  • Small pictures on desktop
  • Used to open files or programs

📊 Taskbar

The taskbar is at the bottom of the screen.

Parts of Taskbar:

  1. Start Button – Opens menu
  2. Quick Launch Toolbar – Shortcuts to programs
  3. Middle Section – Shows open programs
  4. System Tray – Shows time, sound, battery

🖱️ Steps to Open an Icon

  1. Move mouse pointer to the icon
  2. Double-click the icon

🖱️ Steps to Move an Icon

  1. Click on the icon
  2. Hold the mouse button
  3. Drag to new place
  4. Release the mouse

📂 Arrange Icons

  1. Right-click on desktop
  2. Click Arrange Icons
  3. Choose option (Name, Size, etc.)

🎨 Change Wallpaper

  1. Right-click on desktop
  2. Click Personalize
  3. Choose wallpaper
  4. Click Apply

⏱️ Set Screen Saver

  1. Right-click on desktop
  2. Click Personalize
  3. Click Screen Saver
  4. Choose style
  5. Click OK

🔌 How to Shutdown Computer

  1. Click Start Button
  2. Click Power
  3. Click Shut Down
